Paramahansa Yogananda, the author of Autobiography of a Yogi, is a spiritual mastermind. He shares the underlying unity of all religions, the science of kriya yoga meditation, and the art of balancing health and well-being.
I have been touched by his wisdom and compassion for others in ways that words can’t even describe. We have 35 powerful life lessons that Paramahansa Yogananda can teach you today.
35 Life Changing Lessons to Learn from Paramahansa Yogananda
1. Your trials were not meant to punish but to awaken You | Yogananda
These trials were not meant to punish you. They were meant to awaken you to the fact that you are part of Spirit. The Flame of Infinity is just behind your sparks.
2. Season of failure is the best season to sow the seeds of success | Yogananda
3. Your mistakes are not yours
“Is it less valuable if a diamond is covered in mud?” God sees the beauty in our souls. He sees that we are not our faults.
4. Your life should not be run in an ordinary fashion | Yogananda
“Don’t let your life go in a routine; do something unique that no one else has done. It will amaze the whole world.” Demonstrate that God’s creative principle is working in you.
5. Your brain holds incredible amounts of energy.
“Incredible amounts are stored in your brain. Enough in a gram to run Chicago for 2 days. You say you are tired?
6.Be open with yourself | Yogananda
“Be truthful with yourself. The world isn’t honest with you. Inner peace is possible when you are open with yourself.
7.Change yourself You have played your part in making the world a better place | Yogananda
“The more self-realization a man has, the more the universe is affected by his subtle spiritual vibrations.”
8. Do not do anything that could contaminate your mind
Never do anything that will taint your mind. Wrong actions cause negative or evil mental vibrations that are reflected in your whole appearance and personality. You can nurture the positive qualities you desire by engaging in actions and thoughts.
9. You will feel what you criticize in others.
“If you criticize others judgmentally, rather than simply commenting on their behavior impartially, that shows that you have their faults to work on in yourself. You can also make yourself more prone to criticizing others. You will eventually have to see what you criticize in others. This is the karmic law. This is how people learn compassion.
10. Take a look Fear It will stop bothering you if it is in your face. Yogananda
“Roam the world like a lion of self control; the frogs and weaknesses won’t kick you around.”
11. Live simple. Don’t let yourself be caught up in the machines of the world | Paramahansa Yogananda
Live simply. Do not get caught up in the machine of the universe. It is too demanding. When you finally get what you want, your nerves will be gone and your heart will be broken. Your bones will ache. You must resolve to increase your spiritual power. The art of right living is something you can learn. Learn to live with joy …. Have happiness now.”
12. Be happy with Youserlf | Yogananda
“Make up your mind that you will be happy whether you are rich or poor, healthy or unhealthy, happily married or unhappily married, young or old, smiling or crying. Don’t wait for yourself, your family, or your surroundings to change before you can be happy within yourself. You can be happy right now, no matter where you are.
13. You cannot escape the world.
“People run, people, but there’s no escape from themselves.” Each one must ultimately face his own self.”
14. Millions of people are becoming robots because they have been conditioned by their environments.
“Millions of people don’t analyze themselves.” They are mechanical machines of their environment. They are preoccupied with eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner, sleeping, working, and being entertained. They aren’t sure what or why they are looking for, and they don’t realize why they don’t find happiness or lasting fulfillment. People continue to be robots by avoiding self-analysis. True self-analysis, which is the best art of progress, is what we should be doing.
15. Sometimes truth is bitter before it is sweet
“Worldly people don’t like candor that shatters their illusions. Saints are not only rare but disconcerting. They are frequently found embarrassing even in scripture.
16. Do not seek the paltry tinsel of this world, but divine wealth
“Find divine wealth and not the paltry tinsel on earth.” You will discover that there is always an outward supply of treasure once you have accumulated inward treasure.”
17. It’s possible to have lots of money and not have enough inner peace. It is like being thirsty while swimming in the ocean | Paramahansa Yogananda
18. Everything is created by the mind
“Mind is the creator and sustainer of all things. It is your responsibility to guide it towards creating only good. When you hold on to a particular thought with dynamic willpower it eventually takes on a tangible outer form. You can control your destiny by using your will for constructive purposes.
“If your thoughts dwell on the negative, you will make yourself ugly.” So that you can see the beauty in all things, look only for the positive.
19. Take off the mask that covers the human being.
You don’t have to fight to reach God. However, you must work to remove the veil you have created around him.
“Communion with God is the only way to live. This understanding will take time, and often be painful. It is worth learning now. He is waiting to receive you. It is impossible to not reach God eventually. It is foolish to ask “Will it be possible to get into heaven’s kingdom?”There is no place else you can call home because that is where your true home. It doesn’t take much to get it. You are already God’s child, created in His image. Only you need to remove the mask of the human person and recognize your divine birthright.”
20. Only the wise can tell where predestination ends. Free will It begins | Paramahansa Yogananda
“Meanwhile, you must keep on doing your best, according to your own clearest understanding. You must yearn for freedom like a drowning man longs to breathe. You will not find God if you don’t have sincere longing.
21. In the center of your being, you’ll find Peace
“Retire to your center, which is tranquility.”
22. Imagination This is where disease and other diseases can be entered
“The body is a dangerous friend. Don’t forget to give it your due. Both pleasure and pain are temporary. You can endure them with calmness while trying to transcend their limits. The doorway to both disease and healing is through imagination. Do not believe in the reality that sickness exists, even if you are sick. An unrecognized visitor can flee!
23. Your health or lack of it reflects your subconscious expectations
“It was your thoughts that have made it alternately weakening and strong,” my guru said to me. “You’ve seen that your health has been exactly as you expected. Thought can be described as a force. The almighty consciousness of God is the spark within the human mind. I could show that whatever your powerful mind believes, it would immediately come to pass.
24. Mind is literally what makes and sustains the body | Paramahansa Yogananda
“If the master is willing to allow himself to be commanded and controlled by a servant, he becomes autocratic. The mind is similarly enslaved when it submits to bodily dictated commands.”
25.Do not look for absolute values in the relative worlds of nature.
God is simple. Everything else is complicated. You should not look for absolute values in the relative universe of nature.
26. Solve all your problems through Meditation
“The great Guru taught his disciples not to discuss the scriptures theoretically. He said, “He is only wise if he devotes himself to understanding, not only reading, the ancient revelations.” Meditation is the best way to solve all your problems. __S.72__
27. Continual intellectual study results in vanity
Continual intellectual research leads to vanity and false satisfaction with unabsorbed knowledge.
28. Do not mistake the technique for the Goal
“You often go into silence, but haven’t you developed anubhava?” He was reminding us to love God more than meditation. “Do not confuse the technique with the goal.”
29. Just because someone is an eloquent speaker on metaphysics it doesn’t mean he is a Master
Many bewildered seekers in the West believe that a metaphysics writer or speaker must be a master. The only way to prove that you are a master is by being able to reach immutable bliss (nirbikalpa-samadhi), and the ability at will to enter the breathless state (sabikalpa. samadhi). These achievements are what the rishis emphasized to show that a person can master maya, the dualistic cosmic illusion. Only he can say, from the depths of realization, “Ekam Sat” (“Only One Exists”).
30. All knowledge is useless if it’s not put into practice.
“I don’t want people to believe that they can achieve realization by simply listening to other people or reading books. They have to put into practice what they hear and read.”
31. You belong to no one, and no one belongs to you
“Remember that you are not your own and that no one is yours.” You will one day have to give up everything. So, make an effort to get to know God.
32. Attachment can be blinding
“Attachment blinds; it gives an imaginary halo effect of attractiveness to the object in desire.”
33. Because there is only one God, there is only one religion in the entire world.
“If religion is primarily God-consciousness or the realization of God within and without, and then secondarily a body of beliefs, tenets, and dogmas, then there is only one religion in the universe because there is only one God.”
34 You just need to improve your knowledge
Self-realization refers to the realization in all of your parts that you now possess the kingdom of God. You don’t have to pray for it to come to you. God’s Omnipresence is your omnipresence. All you have to do is increase your knowledge.
35 If you are satisfied only with belief, it becomes dogma–narrow-mindedness
“The truths that Jesus taught went beyond blind belief. This is a result of being influenced by paradoxical pronouncements from priests and cynics. To receive the idea of God, belief is the first step in spiritual growth. However, this concept must be converted into conviction and experience. Believers are the first step to conviction. To be able to examine equitably a subject, one must believe it. But if one is satisfied only with belief, it becomes dogma–narrow-mindedness, a preclusion of truth and spiritual progress. It is essential to cultivate, in the soil that is belief, the direct experience, and contact with God. This indisputable realization is what saves people, and not mere belief.
