Don’t run behind temporary sensual pleasure?

What happens to us is that we feel that it’s ok to watch porn and masturbate. We love the momentary pleasure and don’t notice the damage it causes to us. but the pleasure of success is permanent and porn is for the temporary pleasure.

The mind always takes you to things that give pleasure without any hard work and sex is the ocean of pleasure so naturally, you are forced by your mind to do this activity again and again.

But you are not your mind, mind is just an illusion.

You should always take care of the fact that you are a soul or Atma and it doesn’t want sexual pleasure it just wants to free itself from the cycle of birth and death.

What are the 5 vratas to practice brahmacharya?

Although in the Indian scriptures ‘Brahmacharya’ has a much wider and more pithy meaning, I take the popular meaning of it mostly captured by the English word ‘celibacy’.

It comes among the five vratas: अहिंसा, सत्य, अस्तेय, ब्रह्मचर्य एवं अपरिग्रह (Ahimsa, satya, asteya, brahmacharya and aparigraha).

Of these, Brahmacharya can (narrowly) be defined as ‘abstinence from any physical or mental sexual indulgence’.

Hindu Phiolosophy.

In the Hindu philosophy, there is a concept of ‘urdhwaretas’ (उर्ध्वरेतस्) and as its antonym ‘adhoretas’ (अधोरेतस्), meaning that the one whose reproductive energy has moved upwards and the one whose reproductive energy has moved downwards, respectively.

How do practices of brahmacharya may result in creative activities such as making great works of art and architecture, painting, poetry, science, philosophy?

At this juncture, I would like to borrow from Arthur Schopenhauer. He is a philosopher of Will. To him, there is something called ‘Will’ in every creature that expresses itself or manifests itself by the physical form and mental attributes of the being or creature concerned.

It has manifested itself, for serving its own ends, in eyes and ears, and hand and feet, and mouth and voice and thinking and choosing and remembering and forgetting, reproducing, and creative activities, etc.

Allthese expressions, the manifestation of the Will to survive forever comes up as the urge to reproduce.

This urge may find various outlets. It may be so-called sexual or so-called asexual. The sexual manifestation comes in animals, birds, etc as the organs of reproduction (in male and female), an attraction for the opposite sex, and a pleasure in indulging in sexual activities.

It also manifests some other characteristics in plants etc such that the color of the flower, fragrance, and so on. It may manifest in a change in body odor, the taste of meat/flesh, etc to protect it from predators, and so on so forth.

When the Will does not find the outlet of its reproductive urge through the most frequent activities (which amounts to stop it from going downwards, by being उर्ध्वरेतस्), the energy tries to find its outlet in some other way.

This may result in creative activities such as making great works of art and architecture, painting, poetry, science, philosophy, and so on such that the Will and its imprints continue to ‘live’ forever in the future.

This is the possible benefit of celibacy or Brahmacharya. Directing one’s creative energies to attain higher and lofty goals, living forever not biologically but abiologically. That is why Brahmacharya is a key to success.
